Commentaires : The West End production ran for two years, undergoing some re-writing and changes during the course of its run. A heavily re-written version, with book additions by Thomas Meehan opened on Broadway in April 2004 and ran for eight months (284 performances). The New York version used the same British production team, though many songs were cut and several new ones added to the score.
Presse : DARREN DALGLISH says, "A big disappointment as I expected more humour and more Bollywood energy, instead we have a musical that fails to hit the high notes."

RHODA KOENIG for THE INDEPENDENT says, "Gooey Bombay mix that fails to fulfil its promise."

MICHAEL COVENEY for THE DAILY MAIL says, "A real Bombay dazzler ."

RICHARD MORRISON for THE TIMES says, "To turn this mishmash into a hot ticket is going to take more than a spoonful of curry powder."

NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD "It's a bold, inventive shot at something new that misses the target. "

CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "Though there is much to admire in Bombay Dreams - notably Rahman's wonderfully fresh, exciting and sometimes yearningly romantic score...there is much more that disappoints."

ALASTAIR MACAULAY for THE FINANCIAL TIMES says, " Pimlott brings off some non-narrative musical passages beautifully."

MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN says, "...clumsy, over-plotted book." And goes on to say, "The acting honours are stolen by .... Raad Rawi as the white-coated Mafia boss and Shelley King as an astringent gossip colum nist."

JOHN PETER for THE SUNDAY TIMES says, "Bombay Dreams is a spectacular tribute to Bollywood, though it can't escape that genre's limitations."

Commentaires : With clever animatronic puppets from the Jim Henson studio, and a flying moth over the auditorium, this £4 million production was a satisfactory adaptation of the Rex Harrison/Anthony Newley film version, and provided ideal family entertainment for the best part of a year’s run.
Presse : CHARLES SPENCER of THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says "It is a warm and winning family show, and having expected to like Dolittle very little, I actually enjoyed it quite a lottle."

MICHAEL COVENEY of THE DAILY MAIL says "This may look like a low-rent Lion King, but it has its own wacky, very English charm."

DAVID BENEDICT of THE INDEPENDENT says, "If you have got kids - grab them and go."

MICHAEL BILLINGTON of THE GUARDIAN says, "Don't go expecting Chicago or Pal Joey. But, on its own terms, Doctor Dolittle is a wholly delightful family musical: ecologically sound, visually ravishing and genuinely charming."

MAX BELL of THE EVENING STANDARD says, "Animal magic makes the Doctor a winner."

ROBERT GORE-LANGTON of THE DAILY EXPRESS was not overly exited about the show saying; " There's lashings of special effects plus an impressive airborne finale. It doesn't really deserve it, but I've no doubt this show will become this summer's unmissable family outing."

Presse : NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, "It offers a seductive blend of camp, kitsch." RHODA KOENIG for THE INDEPENDENT says, "Lee Mead ...Lacking in character and with a tendency to give out towards the end of a line, his voice is not the world's greatest...But Mead more than fulfils the requirements, with a mop of dark curls, a wholesome, sweet manner, and a way of filling a pleated loincloth that will appeal to all sexes...A Joseph virgin, I enjoyed myself far more than I thought possible at a Lloyd Webber show." MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN says, "The late Steven Pimlott's 1991 Palladium production...had a heart and soul whereas everything about this revival seems either cutesy, camp or calculated." BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, "Lee Mead...turns out to be both talented and enthusiastic...With spoofs of country music, calypso and even Piaf added to the mix, the show is a reminder of how splendidly versatile Lloyd Webber can be. Nor has Rice written jauntier lyrics." LISA MARTLAND for THE STAGE says, "Rice and Lloyd Webber’s score remains as infectious as ever." CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "Lee Mead...looks good in a loin cloth, and has a powerful and expressive voice...By the end, however his vocals were beginning to sound a touch frayed."
